dhcpd does not running on RH9

i installed rh 9 on a new machine (full install). I now have a dumb terminal that needs to connect to the new machine (server). The terminal needs dhcp to connect. It gave a message saying that it cannot get a dhcp connection. I then went onto the new machine typed setup and say that dhcp was not select to automatically start up. I then selected it and rebooted. but am still geting the same problem.

what am i doing wrong. How do i setup dhcpd.

when i type service dhcpd start ( or restart)it just goes back to the hash promps

Please help, this is urgent and i am new to linux

hello v1nc3nt,

If you have configured dhcpd.conf found in /etc/ directory you need to do is:-

chkconfig --level 2345 dhcpd on

(to start dhcpd automatically every time)

service dhcpd start #to start the dhcpd server
service dhcpd status #to see if it is started
service dhcpd stop # to stop it

ps there is no need to restart machine just run:-

service dhcpd restart

hope this will help you
