DHCP and DDNS updates

Hello,
I have setup a DHCP server (Standard Linux DHCP daemon) to Dynamically update the dns server with hostname and IP of the client machines in the network. The setup is working perfectly for desktop machines with single network cards. The issue is with laptops which have network ports and wifi connectivity as well. When a laptop connects to the network first time using network cable a new IP is assigned and the DNS is updated with the proper hostname but if the same machine later turns to Wifi the Dynamic DNS update fails as the hostname is already registered and the network interface (hence the MAC address) is different causing the DHCP server to not able to delete the old hostname to IP mapping (as the TXT record DHCPID is different for both the interfaces).

I would be glad if anybody can guide me how to circumvent this issue. Is it possible to assign different hostnames to different network interfaces for both Linux and Windows desktops?

Thanks
Asif Mushtaq

Yes, you can have any host name you want for each machine, doesn't matter if its linux or windows, its just a machine name.
For one network you have to have the same workgroup name = network name. Machine names would not cause a problem.

Sounds like your Wireless Network Settings are not settup?

Who is your Ineternet Service Provider? Are you using an external Gateway provided by your ISP? If yes, what brand is it? In other words how is your network setup? What is your OS?
