dfm not found after installation

Hello, guys, this next question is probably an easy one for you.

I just installed dfm through apt in kubuntu, but i can't seem to find it in my menu. I ran 'dpkg --get-selections | grep dfm' and it says 'dfm install'. But i go to through my menus and i find dolphin, my current file manager, but no signs of dfm. At first, i installed tkdesk, and the same thing happened. I couldn't find anywhere. The rest of apps that i have installed, appear in my menus with no problem.

I tried installing these new file managers cause dolphin does not show the icons when showing pictures and videos, i just get the ugly default picture for them.

What's going on?

Unless you have a menu updating tool, you may have to log out and then back in again for it to be added to your menu.

I am not sure if i do have a menu updating tool, but all other applications like easytag, miro and some others, always appear the second i install them without ever having to logout. That applies to the times when i uninstall something, as well.

In fact, i just started my computer since the last time i wrote, and i don't see dfm anywhere in the menu. What's going on?

Regards, trebek.

I also get this at times, some apps will add themselves to the menu, while others don't. You should be able to add it yourself manually.

Is there like a 'correctest' way to add something to the menu?? Or should i just do it whichever way i first encounter?

You should have a menu editor, that's the best way to add apps to your menu list.

You say dolphin doesn't show you previews for your pics and vids, did you activate that option?

Incase you didn't go to: View--> Adjust View Properties--> View mode and select Previews.

If you want to use b[]previews[/b] as the default mode instead of per folder then go to: Settings--> Configure Dolphin--> General--> Default View Mode and select Previews.

I do get previews in the right side panel, with a description, but the file itself is just default icon for the file. But that's because i have icons and not preview as view mode. Thanks mate.

Now i'll get back to the add app to menu issue. Thanks again.

Try right clicking the kicker button (the one that brings up your main menu), you might see the edit menu option listed.
