device /dev/dsp can't be opened (Permission denied)

I'm getting when I log in as a normal user:
Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (Permission denied)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

I found /dev/dsp as group root, and adsp as group root, I changed them to group audio, problem persists.

Here's a listing of /dev | grep dsp

Any ideas?

Is your user in the audio group? For a home machine, I usually just make dsp0 world readable and writeable.
