Question /dev/rtc not currently available in VMWARE, Mandrake 9.2

This being my first post, I'll try not to say anything stupid and consequently get flamed for being a n00b...

I successfully installed Windows 2000 on Vmware with a host OS of Mandrake 9.2. When I run the guitar tablature program, Powertab, I get a hint from vmware that says:

"The host high-resolution timer device (dev/rtc) is not currently available (Permission Denied). It may be that you do not have it configured into your host or that another application is using it. Without the timer, the guest operating system may not keep time correctly and animated menus may appear sluggish."

The main problem is that the midi playback in this program is mad slow as a result it.

I just would like to add that I don't have this problem with XP as the guest OS but I'd rather use 2000 because it is faster, not as bulky as Winders XPEE Professional

I appreciate your help!

Vmware 4.51 and rtc problem

I have this same problem since upgrading to vmware 4.51, There is a work around, which is to remove the permissions from the device file.

# chmod 777 /dev/rtc

Then start vmware and all will work as normal. However this is reset frequently therefore you will need to do this alot.

If anyone knows how to fix this permanantly I would like to hear it.
