I'm using gnome, and there is an applet that can be added to the panel. I'm not sure if it has all the same features as the one you're accustomed to, but it's decent. Just right click the panel, add to panel,
accessories, weather report.

If you're using KDE, right-click on the Taskbar/Kicker and choose Add - Applet - KWeather. You'll need to sort out your local code for the Met Station near you.

There is an applet for a KDE bar called kweather that works pretty well. There are also themes for superkaramba that can handle this. The one that I've found to work best is called modified liquid theme. Look for superkaramba and weather themes at www.kde-look.org I use weatherbug when in XP, but I like the superkaramba theme about 100x more. Its a little buggy, when you click on it, sometimes each daily forecast for the week flips down repeatedly, but just avoid doing that and it works fine
