Desktop icons for files that don't exist?
I am running SuSE 9 pro, with the default version KDE. Occasionally umwanted icons appear unexpectedly on my desktop, but when I attempt to delete them, I get a dialog box saying "this file does not exist", and listing the contents of the desktop folder from the command line confirms this fact.
This make me wonder why, therefore, the KDE desktop is displaying icons for files that do not exist. Surely the purpose of desktoip icons is to show what files DO exist! What is going wrong here, and how do I sort it out?

How bizarre, I've never heard of anything like this.. What programs/files do these phantom icons correspond to? Do the same set of icons appear again and again, or is it totally random? Similarly, do these icons appear when certain repeatable events occur (such as a Yast update)? Have you recently made any changes to your system? -- J.W.

I used to have a similar problem using a bad compile of Mplayer on a LFS system. Every time I would watch a movie or play a mp3 and stop it in the middle of the playback it would create a ? or a .enh file and place an icon in whatever directory i was currently in. When going into the command prompt they were not there untill i did a ls -a then i saw them and was able to remove them sucessfully. If nothing elese go into the desktop folder and see if you have links there that are broken.
of couse you wanna do this from a command line preferably without kde running.

As I know kde keep desktop item like a file
so you try to delete it in desktop directory
in your home.
if it's not success, launch terminal then
type " rm -f yourtarget"
f parameter means "force".
