Desktop graphics Problem and Drives not detected


Hi Everbody,

Currently i am using ubuntu on Dual boot HDD(Win XP & Ubuntu) .As i start booting with Ubuntu it does not show boot screen intstead it shows This message Resolution not recommended:
Recommended mode 1280x1024?

After 2 minute it shows that Password screen.

Also i am having a problem that i can't access the windows partitions in Ubuntu sometime it shows but most of the time It does not shows windows partitions.

I also can't play movies with extension .dat,.wmv etc.Although i have installed all codecs for VLC .it plays sometime the videos with .avi extension ,but most of the time i cannot play audio and video files on Ubuntu Linux. I am using Ubuntu 7.01 version .

Please resolve All above problems..

Try passing grub the vga parameter. Edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and add vga=794 to the kernel line. If vga=794 does not work here is a table of vga values to try:

We need more information about the partition problem. Could you post the output from this command:

fdisk -l

Could you post the contents of /boot/grub/menu.lst

What program are you trying to use to play .dat,.wmv, etc.? What error message are you getting when you try to play them?
