Desktop Graphics

I have been looking as OS X recently, and I was wondering if there was any piece of software that runs on linux that will run some of the effects that are programmed into OS X, like the taskbar and whatnot..
I know that Sun is working on the so called "looking glass", which is basically a copy of the OSX effects, but I can't seem to find something similar out there.
Does anyone know of any neat graphics desktop packages?

What 'effects', particularly? KDE has a 'taskbar and whatnot', as do several other desktop environments, which are highly customizable. Please be more specific about what effects you are looking for.

if you use KDE just install superkaramba and get a docker theme for kdelook.org and it should have all the effects you are looking for.
