Desktop display not working after installing qt4, Mandriva 2009
I wanted to installed Skype on Mandriva 2009 x64, but qt4 was a pre requisite so I installed it first (from the control panel). I still got an error when trying to install Skype (downloaded rpm), so I tried to reboot. However, now I just get a black screen instead of a login prompt. I have had a lot of issues with X11, but I usually get at least a prompt, I don't even get that now. Just a black screen... If I hit ctrl+alt+F2 I can log in as root, and I tried to start x, but I get a message saying there is a problem with D-sub.... Any idea how to fix this?

Log into the terminal as the user then su to root.
Upgrade X or reinstall X. Reboot. Skype can cause problems. Use ekiga, kphone or some other SIP available. |

How would I re-install X from a command line? I have had so may problems with X or the desktop when upgrading something that sholdn't have anything to do with it. Can I do a system backup of a system before I do an upgrade, and then roll it back if I have a problem? Can I do it for the system as well as a for a user (have had problems with my user desktop)?
