Exclamation Dependency is not satisfiable:curl

Hi everyone, I am currently running Lubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail. I am trying to install Steam. I'm not doing it the bad way with wine, I am actually trying to install the steam package since it is available for Linux. Since I don't have Ubuntu software center to help me, I need some help doing this myself.

This is what comes out of LXTerminal when I try installing Curl.
Code:
root@Alec-Laptop-Lubuntu:~# apt-get install curl
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package curl is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'curl' has no installation candidate
root@Alec-Laptop-Lubuntu:~#
This is what I get when I try to install Steam's downloaded .deb file.
Code:
Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: curl
It looks like something else needs to be installed in order for curl to work correctly, but what?

If someone could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

I don't know why it would say that, given that curl is listed as a package within raring.

Quote:
apt-get install curl
Better : apt-get update && apt-get install curl

I.e. currently lots of updates for "13.04",
the package lists are constantly changing,
so "apt-get update" must be done quite often.
