dependencies
sometimes when i go to install a package (in this case an rpm), i get a failed dependencies notice for several files, etc. which i know are installed and in their customary location. what am i missing? thanks for any help.

If the packages were not installed as RPM's then they will not be on the rpm database. You can always use the --nodeps option if you know they are there
|
You can use rpm -P option to search for a file provided by a not installed rpm

Re: dependencies
thanks to both of you, i learned something in each reply-i wasn't sure if the nodeps would result in a successful install if the dependencies could not be found by the installer and i didn't know about the -P at all-it seems to me that there is no single comprehensive source that covers it all from the ground up and assistance like yours is invaluable and in my case continually required as you may see in my latest post. again, thanks!
