Dell e4300 distro problems

i have a new dell e4300 and it just doesnt want to play with debian based distros.

i have managed to install suse 11.1 ok and it works ok (only been on a very short time mind you) but when i have tried to install kubuntu, mint or debian it just spits out line after line of I/O errors and in the end i just cancel the boot up/install and reboot back to normal.

has anyone else had these problems? or heard of these problems?
