Deleting kernel source

Hi,
I have downloaded the kernel source and extracted it to a folder in the home directory and compiled it. I copied the image file to the boot directory and now everything seems to work fine for almost a week. Now i want to know whether i can delete the files that i used for compiling (i.e the files in my home directory)?? or are these files still used in the boot process??

thanks

You may delete them safely. Once compiled, what matters is the bzImage file, the corresponding System.map (and the initrd if you need one) and the /lib/modules/version directory. Just make sure you keep the original archive (gz or bz2) in case you need to recompile the kernel sometimes.
