deleting files from ntfs
 

a windows box of my friends got infected with several viruse, so i pulled the hard drive and put it into my linux box.. because it was too far gone to scan in windows..
however i hadn't realized that I wouldnt be able to delete from the ntfs partition..
i have scanned the drive and know what files need to be destroyed.. and was just wandering how i should go about doing it.. or if i cant do it directly from my box.. is there some way that i could network the computers and scan his hard hard drive from my computer over the network? or somthing to that effect..
the computer will run.. but whenever he runs a program that will try to scan the hard drive.. it will crash..

You could try Captive NTFS, Knoppix used to come with it but I'm not sure if it still does.

Or you could build a BartPE disc, it's essentially an XP LiveCD.

you can write on an ntfs partition (and then erase) from linux but it's experimental... if you still want to try you need to recompile your kernel and activate the 'write to ntfs' option...

No and that definately complicates things. If your friend has a normal XP CD you could install XP in VMWare and use that to generate the BartPE disc.

Or you can try to find a version of Knoppix that has the Captive NTFS driver on it, you pretty much need that to write to NTFS partitions.

I'm 99% sure that the new knoppix 4.0 DVD floating around (though not officially released) contains the captive NTFS driver.
