Defunct Process - Need help

Newbie question: I am running only one process on my machine which in turn interacts with hardware etc. However, I am observing that this process is becoming defunct many times and I have reboot the PC (after Kill -9/-15/-1 fail).

As this is the only one process running, I am not sure which is the host process for mine. Any help would be useful to enrich my knowledge?

Thanks.
