Default printer not recognized in Oo 1.02

Recently installed the RH 9 distro to a standalone computer. I installed my Lexmark Optra E312 lazer printer (postscript) and the test page prints fine. I can also print with no problems from gedit. When I try to print from Open Office (1.02, the version that came with the distro), the lexmark printer is listed as <lexmark>, but the generic printer is listed as the default printer. Not only that, choosing the lexmark printer doesn't work. The normal flashing light on the printer that means data is loading (or processing, I don't know which) is followed by the yellow error light, and then nothing. In the print dialog in OO, when I select the <lexmark> it shows the same driver as if I were using the generic printer. Obviously a config file that OO uses is not operating correctly, or OO is not reading it correctly.
