Default alsa volumes to zero!
I'm running a MDK 9.2 with a 2.6 kernel and ALSA.
When i start the PC and all the stuff is loaded (thus i'm facing the KDE desktop), all the volumes are set to zero and a few channels are also muted. If i go into kmix i can unmute the channels and raise the volumes and the sound works. There's also an option to save the current kmix settings as defaults, but when i boot my pc the sound is mute again and i have to manually go into kmix and load the defaults. Ever happened to anyone else? |
yah actually it has ;-)
anyways fire up a terminal and type : alsamixer and set the volumes accordingly ... then when you press ESC to exit type : alsactl store and give that a shot |
Alsa's default volume is set to 0. At one time I had script wrote that would turn the volume and channels up at boot. I think is is the amixer program that will do it.

i still got to reboot (i'm not used anymore to reboot for such trivial matters! :)) but it looks good. Thanks :)

Try this:
