Debian X Server Problems

Hi guys,

I installed a Debian 2.2 Kernel on my System, and I wantet to use the XFree86 Server. It took a little time to get it running, but now it works.
But now when I try to loggin with Gnome or XDM i get the loggin Screen, and when I try to log in, it automaticly logs me out.
Can anyone imagine what this is, and how to fix it? I am very new on linux, so please help.

Greetz Nico

You are probably selecting a session type in GDM or XDM that isn't fully supported (or even present). If you, for instance, would try to start a Fluxbox session and Fluxbox isn't installed you'd be bounced right back to the login screen.

If starting X by using startx from the shell has worked previously, try selecting xsession as the session type.
