Debian woody upgrade to 2.6.6 issues

just tired upgrading debian woody to 2.6.6 and well, it hasn't been going well...(first time totally wrecked my install...and it might again.....(when I re-boot))

anyway, make bzImage goes fine, make modules goes fine, but when I try to install the modules...
I get a compiling error:

"Make: ***[_modinst_post] Error 1"

I have module-init-tools 3.0 which I thought was supposted to fix this problem...

if anyone has any ideas please let me know...as I am not sure when I re-boot my system I will have working kernel modules...

(also, I have read the Kernel-Build-HowTo)

When you 'make config' , make sure Digital Video Broadcasting under Device Drivers>Multimedia Devices is not selected.

I'm currently downloading the patch to upgrade my source tree for the kernel from 2.6.6 to the new 2.6.7 and hope that it will fix the problem...otherwise...I still have the same issue...

EDIT:________________
I just discovered it also spits out another error... Unrecognised symbol...then a little later it will give the error (complained about in first post) I have discovered that if you build them into the kernel (Y insted of M) it will no longer complain about it...but well....that isn't exactly something that should be done...

module-init-tools was installed with the -prefix=/sbin...

hope this helps someone (and myself)

I now have it all figured out and kernel 2.6.7 is now booting. Here is the steps I went through..

install module-init-tools 3
followed standard process (config, make bzImage...yada yada)
except if it fails w/ unrecognized symbol compile the module that failed into the kernel (y instead of m) until make module_install installs successfully. then edit lilo/grub...

once rebooted run "depmod x" where x is your kernel version, re-boot again and that should eliminate the QM_Module errors you get when booting 2.6.x the first time..

hope this saves someone some pain and suffering
