Debian install problem

Ok, I just got my debian cds in the mail, but cannot install them on my PC.

I'm trying to load them onto an old box, AMD 133mhz, 32m Ram, 2 hard drives totaling around 13g. That isn't my main PC, but I want to get used to linux first, before swapping over all my pcs.

Anyway, I formatted the hard disks and after running fdisk and making the first drive C: the Pri partition, and drive D: the extended partition.

This PC is too old to boot from CD, but I'm using an old win98 startup disk to load the CD drivers. So I type in F:\install\boot.bat and it goes through loading for a couple seconds then stops. The last line reads something like this:

Cannot mount fs on 1:00

Is it something I'm doing wrong? How can I fix this/do it right?

Thanks,
Garrett

I suggest you create the two boot floppies instead and boot from them instead of booting from DOS. I suggest you check out the installation manual, and more to the point, the section on how to create boot floppies.

Booting from DOS has always worked poorly for me. Creating the floppies always works when all else fails! :)

OK. Do the correct floppy images come on my Debian cds or will I have to download them?

They are on your CD's. You should use the 2.4 kernel floppies available in the dists/stable/main/disks-i386/<version>/images-1.44/bf2.4/ directory. You need the rescue and root floppies, then install everything else from CD.

I found them, and I installed linux on the pc, but I believe I used the vanilla kernel. anyway, now I have another problem that I just recently posted about, if you could look it up here that would be great. Thanks.
