Debian does nothing to encourage newbies. They're enough hassle without encouragement. That's why we have Mephis, Mint, and Ubuntu.

If you've got a question, ask it ... You'll either get flamed for not googling or reading the manual, ... or someone will answer it.

rick like i said in my opening questions that instead of asking too many question there might be some guide as is available for FC9. It would save my time and others too. You people are experienced and have more exposure to knowledge available withing the form and outside.

I did go through the manual and did google it but couldnt find any help of my level i.e. newbie. for example i have been told that installation in debian is sudo dpkg -i instead of yum install sort of thing.

sorry if my question was too general or apparently lazy in nature.

Debian has one of the best and easy package managers around. Maybe this guide will be of help.

http://www.debian.org/CD/

debian.org
cdimage.debian.org
packages.debian.org

It's fairly easy to install IMO. Although if you don't know much about linux and have never installed a custom kernel, it may not be for you. Did you have any debian questions? Or is this debian thread all about fedora?

I don't agree with that at all; Debian has a *huge* collection of documentation which is also available from the project home page. All it takes is a newbie who cares to read, click on links, and search the archives.
