Exclamation Dansguardian/Squid HELP!

I'm working in a school at the moment and we use a dansguardian proxy server... all is working fine exsept it is a very very old install and is slow.

(10 meg file takes 60 seconds to download but threw a diffrent (windows) proxy server it takes 20)

I am building a new Dansguardian proxy server... so far so good, i have everything installed and working. exsept i canno get any internet connectivaty.

1 network card with 2 addresses. 10.1.0.250 on subnet 255.255.0.0 and 172.20.16.250 on subnet 255.255.255.0

We are on a county wide WAN and our router (172.20.16.254) is the only way to gain internet access.

i cannt get the server to access the inetrenet even tho it has an address on the correct range, and i definatley cannot get proxy access threw squid : 3128 or threw dansguardian :8080.

Any idea? any simple setup issues that i have missed?

So are you saying that even when not going through the proxy you cannot reach the internet?

What system are you trying to set the proxy up on?

Correct, i had 1 network card with a 10.1 address as its primary address (facing network) and a 172.10.16 address(to internet) as its "Virtual" address. I could not gain internet access threw the server (Mandrake 10.1) or threw the proxy server.

HOWEVER, i descided to start again and make the NIC primary address a 172.20.16 address (to internet) and the secondary address a 10.1 address (to network). this gave me access to internet localey and threw a proxy.

Since then i have managed to setup dansguardian and got it working.

Onley problem now is i cannot restart or stop the dansguardian service. every time i try i get the replay "it appears i'm already running" even if i try to stop it

any ideas on that one ?
