damn small linux embedded and cinelerra

is it possible to use dsl embedded and cinelerra at the same time. because i'm at my school and i'm trying to show the benefit of free software and not having to spend extra money. well i was looking into video editors that were open-source or freeware for linux and windows, so that i could use the program on both distros. well i have used dsl embedded before and i was just thinking maybe i could install this under dsl(it doesn't need to stay small) and then just use the embedded to use this program.

possible?
what version of cinelerra would i download, like the source or what?

Thanks Very Much
