Damn Small..

is it possible to install kde and/or gnome on dsl (harddrive)? and does anyone know why i cannot copy files from the floppy drive in dsl (harddrive)?

Then it WILL stop being Damn Small. But of course, it's opensource. You'll need HDD install and appropriate libraries

Damn Small Linux is Debian based so you should not have problems with apt-get. Just add the proper repositories to /etc/apt/sources.list, run 'apt-get update' and then 'apt-get install kde' or 'apt-get install gnome'. You'll have to find the lines to add to sources.list by yourself though, I don't know where to find them, but I hope this helps.
