cutecom: All serial ports gone

Hi there.
I don't understand what happened with my system but yesterday everything worked
(Oracle Virtual Box with ubuntu x64 lates stable inside:
Linux ice-vm 4.13.0-36-generic #40~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Feb 16 23:25:58 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
).
Code:
setserial /dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyS0, UART: unknown, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4
setserial /dev/ttyS1
/dev/ttyS1, UART: unknown, Port: 0x02f8, IRQ: 3
but in cutecom 'Device list' is empty dropbox. Yesterday it worked and showed devices ttyS0-ttyS3.
What happened? Where to dig?

This does not answer your question but occasionally when I put my laptop to sleep and move to another location guest networking will not work. It is set to bridged mode and no matter what I try to restart the only thing that seems to fix the problem is to shutdown/restart the guest.

I rarely use the serial port on my desktop system and have updated VirtualBox several times since but I have not experienced a similar problem. I can't check at the moment but the serial module is compiled into the kernel for real hardware ports so not sure where you can dig.
