Current distro??
 
It's really been a while since installing/using Linux. Craving again....

I've an AMD 64 bit processor. What is the best distro to install?
I tried Ubuntu, but it screwed up the MBR (not that it's a problem).

But, what are better distros to go for?
Is Fedora a good option?

Suse and Mandrake have 64 bit versions, you may wish to give one of them a try.

I have a AMD 64 too, and Ubuntu worked fine for me. Now i am using Slackware and Debian. But not any 64-bit versions though.
