Exclamation CUPS won't let me authenticate (Ubuntu 14.04)

I am installing the printer drivers provided by my manufacturer (Brother), and I needed to get administrative privileges in CUPS to fully set it up. However, whenever I log in with my account (which is in the groups sudoers and lpadmin), it says my login is invalid. Tried it with root, same thing happened. What is going on here? How do I fix this?

Not an Ubuntu user, but this post might be helpful

Quote:
The solution:

- from a terminal prompt -

sudo lppasswd -a username

Enter the user's password for sudo, then enter the CUPS password you want to use, then:

sudo service cups restart

'Didn't work' replies are of little value. Ideally, you should capture any commands entred at the terminal, as well as any output resulting from that command. I assume you can now demonstrate that your user account is now a member of the 'lpadmin' group? Did you read the rest of the thread? Maybe one of the other suggestions will apply. Without being in front of your machine, it's only possible to guess.

Check how 'SysGroup' is defined in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf as well
Code:
cat /etc/cups/cupsd.conf|grep Sys
This can differ by distro.

I note the following Ubuntu reference

http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/...es.conf.5.html

refers to /etc/cups/cups-files.conf as now containing the 'SystemGroup' directive, so perhaps that is relevant to your situation?

Code:
SystemGroup lpadmin

Ubuntu has its own printer configuration tool. Does that work?
Clicking the [Change] button next to the Make and Model field will let you select from the available installed drivers.
