CUPS printer through SAMBA
Good afternoon
I have a file/print server with CUPS and SAMBA installed. The machine is a Slackware 10.1. I configured the printer (a remote HP 1300n) in CUPS using the browser interface, and I added a "AllowUser @<group>" line to the printers.conf section of the HP, for group policies. I installed the printer at a Windows client (using internet printer) and it worked just fine, all the printing and the group access policy (some users allowed to, others not). What I want now is to share that printer through SAMBA (so things are a little more transparent to some users), but when I install the printer at Windows, it says "Cannot connect. Access denied". Soon, I'll be adding more printers, and I need to share them all as well. I've been "googling" for quite some time and still couldn't find anything. Some things I noticed 1) At /var/spool/ there is the cups directory and there's another directory with my printer's name (HP1300). To which one of those must I point the parameter "path" at "smb.conf"? 2) Which local permission should I set to the directory? 3) Lots os people are always setting the "path" as /var/spool/samba. But that directory doesn't seen to exist. Must I create it? If so, which permissions should I set to it? |
Hi
There is too much to explain in a single post, to get CUPS and Samba in tandem. But thankfully, there is very good and detailed information in the Samba HOWTO and official Samba docs Good luck, Eric |
