hello can anybody explain tome why after installing a printer using cups I can only use this printer out of simple text editors like kwrite and so on but not out of i.e. internet browsers ?
I'm using knoppix 3.4 and turboprint as printer software since there is no other support for my canon i865 ... as far as I know
What I did was rename /usr/bin/lpr to /usr/bin/lpr-old and, more importantly, rename /usr/bin/lpr-cups to /usr/bin/lpr. Now it works in Firefox and Thunderbird, don't know about anything else.
Alternatively (for Firefox v. 0.9.1), you can go into the "File->Print..." dialog, and under the "Properties" for the "PostScript/default" printer, you can change it from "lpr blahblahblah" to "lpr-cups blahblahblah" This worked for me...
