cups kills my computer!
at first i thought it was just some bug or something wierd i had done while installing SuSE 8.2 some time ago...
whenever i tried to print, with cups or lpd, to a printer directly connected to my parallel port or to a printer connected to the print server on my d-link router (704-p), my computer either locks up or restarts. i couldn't figure out what the heck was going on.
i waited out the time for SuSE 9 to come out, and upgrade. lo and behold... same problem! so, a few days ago, in a fit of rage, i dumped SuSE for Slackware 9.1. last night i finished doing the inkydink things and logged onto trusty localhost:631....
added my printer... then print test page.... BAM! reboot. bleh. i'm trying to work my way through setting up the printer via lpr, but not there yet.
something tells me that i'm jinxed.
Hardware:
ESC K7S5A (bios date 2/?/2002)
Linksys nic
Tried with cups v 1.18 (SuSE 8.2); cups v 1.21 (?) (SuSE 9.0 and Slack 9.1)
might a bios update on my motherboard even help?
but if it happens with a networked printer, can it really be a motherboard/driver/chipset issue?
