Cups and parallel ports....

OK, i have beent ryign to get my HP Desktjet 812C pritner to work and nothing seems to be working.

I will go through the online cups configuration thing but it just never works...I think i found my problem thou.

When selecting where the printer is located my only options are seril port #1-20 or somethign like that and then usb 1-something. There is nothigna bout the paraell port....

So, I did a little reading in the manual and told the online config to let me specify the location manualy....I put...

parallel:/dev/lp1

Unfortunately, at the very end I get the follwing error...
client-error-not-possible

I have also tried runnign the following comand...
/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p DeskJet -E -v parallel:/dev/lp1 -m deskjet.ppd

Unfortantely i got the same error.

it seems as if Slackware thinks that the Paraell port dosen't even exsit or something....i'm stuck :(

EDIT:
Oh yeah...might as well state the followign to avoice misc. questions...

1. I have tried using variouse drivers (every one that was for my priner) and I have tried selecting Seril Ports # 1-5 or so.
2. When trying out the printer in KDE I made sure that I had it to print using cups.
3. yes, my printer is pluged in.
4. yes, my pritner is on.
5. yes it's working.
6. Yes there IS PAPER IN THE PRINTER!

LOL...think that covers it :D

Did you check you bois? Make shure the paraell port is not disabled. Set it to epp/ecp.

bois? I think you mean Bios...

I guess i can check that...but remember I have a multi boot system. I am running windows and Linux...and the pritner works fine in windows ;)
