ctrl-x wierd behavior in minicom

Hello, I am currently having a problem on suse
9.2. I have a crossover cable between my linux
box, and my windows box. I have both sides
set to 9600 n 8 1, no flow control. standard
ascii characters go accross fine. When I press
ctrl-x twice, The linux box send's 4 ctrl-x's, instead of 2. None of the other ctrl characters exhibit this. Has anyone else seen this, if so, how can I disable it?

Minicom on linux
hyperterm on windows XP.

Thanks in advance
Duane

Are you sure that it's minicom that fools you around? The following when I use minicon on RH8:
hyperterminal:
each odd ctrl-x from minicom does not give anything, each even one gives BB0 (be-be-zero)
my own test app (which can handle raw data and displays in hex):
18 (hex) for each ctrl-x received from minicom

So I assume that minicom is doing it correctly and hyperterm does not understand it.
