CTRL+f5 shortcut for desktop 5 in kubuntu 10.10

In the KDE that comes with Kubuntu 10.10, I would like to assign function keys f5-f8 to desktops 5-8 for use with the control key. Out of the box CTRL + f1-f4 are mapped to the first four corresponding desktops, but 5 - 8 are not.

There was a way to do this in earlier versions, but either I've forgotten or else they've moved it. It should be somewhere under "shortcuts and gestures" but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks.

If you're still having this problem, the shortcut keys are on the "Switching" tab under "Look & Feel" -> "Desktop" -> "Multiple Desktops". Although the keys should have been assigned automatically when you changed the number of virtual desktops.

Thanks, but I don't see any 'Look & Feel' section. I'm assuming that would be under System Settings. Is it something I could call up from the command line or f2?

Yes, that is in System Settings.

If you want a command-line way to do it, look at the `kreadconfig' and `kwriteconfig' commands (call them with the `--help' option for more information). The file with these keyboard shortcuts is `~/.kde/share/config/kglobalshortcutsrc'. To read the shortcut key setting for switching to desktop 1, for example, use this command:
Code:
kreadconfig --file kglobalshortcutsrc --group kwin --key 'Switch to Desktop 1'
