ctrl-alt-left doesn't work for 3Ddesktop

what should I do so that whenever I press <ctrl><alt>left and <ctrl><alt>right, 3DDesktop will take over instead of the traditional workspace switcher?

I read a few how-to's online regarding 3ddesktop, but all they talked about are how to bind <ctrl><alt>S through metacity to activate 3ddesktop, then use left and right key to pick which one, but this is annoying because it involves two steps

I somehow got the impression that 3ddesktop will respond to ctrl-alt-left ctrl-alt-right, but it doesn't work for me. I am still getting the old desktop switcher. I even tried to do keybinding_left and keybinding_right in /etc/3ddesktop.conf, but it didn't help either.

Does anyone use 3ddesktop and know how to configure it? thanks.

What window manager are you using? If it's gnome or KDE then their own keymaps take precedence. If you read the readme file within the 3ddesk tarball I think it says how to make up for that.

From the 3ddesktop FAQ

Quote:
9. How do I make a keybinding to 3ddesktop in GNOME with Metacity?

Run "gconf-editor". Drill down to apps --> metacity --> global_keybindings. Find "run_command_1" and change it to your key such as "F12" or "<Control><Alt>S". Then in apps --> metacity --> keybinding_commands find "command_1" and set it to "/usr/bin/3ddesk".

Kudos to the person who made the anonymous suggestion for this.

yes, I know this. but with this, you must hit ctrl-alt-S, and then go left and right. this is too many keys to press, not to mention that ctrl-alt-s is a difficult combination. what I would like to have is ctrl-alt-left and ctrl-alt-right to switch the desktops, just as we can do it now, but using 3ddesktop instead.
