Crunchbang compatible repository for latest Shotwell?
 

Hello,

I recently installed the latest Crunchbang Linux for a test drive in my VirtualBox virtual machine. However, I noticed that the Shotwell version is 0.12 from the default Crunchbang repositories instead of the latest 0.13 version.

Is there a Crunchbang compatible repository that provides the latest Shotwell? Thanks!

CrunchBang uses Debian repositories. Shotwell 0.13 is in the Debian "experimental" repo.

If I set up the Debian "experimental" repository, does that mean all packages I have installed will be updated to the versions in that repository? Or can I just install Shotwell from experimental, while keeping everything else in their current version?

There is a good "sticky" thread on apt-pinning over on the CrunchBang forums. I highly recommend you give it a thorough read if you are considering mixing "experimental" software into your system.

Or simply use a distribution such as Arch or Ubuntu that is marketed toward users who prefer newer software over a distribution based on Debian which values older, well-tested software. :)

@snowpine Understood, I will follow the instructions in that forum post so that I only update Shotwell to the experimental version while keeping everything else intact. Thank you for your help!
