CrossOver Office installation problem

I'm trying to decide if I should buy this software, but I haven't been able to get it to install properly. So far I haven't gotten any response to my e-mail to CodeWeavers.com I'm about ready to give up on trying to run any Windows applications under Linux.

I'm wondering if anyone else is using CrossOver Office, and what you think of it. The one thing that I can't get to work is the help function for any of the Windows programs I try. The help in Office 97, mIRC, etc. does not work. I don't know if the problems with Windows help are related to my installation problems.

Here's my system configuration:

System Details:

OS: Slackware Linux 10.2
CPU: Pentium 4 3.2 GHz Hyperthreading
Memory: 2 GB
Disk: 320 GB RAID on Promise FastTrack 374 (using Promise "ft3xx" driver for Linux)
Partitions: "/" is 8 GB ext3 with 3 GB free, "/home" is 8 GB ext3 with 7 GB free, swap is 4 GB.
The network is set up, along with SAMBA, but I do not have a web server (Apache, etc.) running.
I am having another (possibly related) problem with the KDE help search index creation failing.
KDE reports the error "htdig failed", although I do have the correct version of "hgdig" installed.

I also have Windows XP installed in a separate partition.

These are the errors I get when I try to install CrossOver Office. I will appreciate any suggestions about how to correct the installation problems.

Code:
Verifying archive integrity...OK
Uncompressing CrossOver Office Standard.............

The error repeats many times, but the line numbers and error messages are the same in all cases.

This sounds like a bug!
I use crossover on a daily basis and it gets the job done. I'm sure you must have your reasons for wanting to install MS Office and mIRC, but if I were you I'd consider other alternatives that run natively on Linux (Beats spending money).
Also, have you tried Wine? It's free and version 0.9 just came out today.
