Cross-platform video conferencing software
Does anyone know what a good choice would be for a webcam video-conferencing package that would work on both Linux and Windows would be? Even something that just allows someone on a Windows computer to view the output from a web-cam hooked up to a Linux PC.
One option I've done, which isn't the best of options, is to setup a VNC server on the Linux box, with xawtv installed. Then I can use a Windows VNC client and startup xawtv. This works, but is pretty slow, because VNC tries to keep the whole desktop updated, and overall isn't really designed for streaming video.
I'm mainly interested in getting something like this setup because I'd like to be able to hook a webcam up to my Linux laptop so that when I go on trips for work, my fiancee can see me when we talk.
I tried a Google search and was overwhelmed with results for various video stuff for Linux, but I didn't see anything specifically designed to be cross-platform like this, though many of the options returned may well have been. In any case, I'd like to know what is currently the video software used for something like this, since many of the links seemed somewhat dated. Any thoughts?
