crontab & quota files are temporary files?

Hey

I'm currently setting up crontab and quotas on my server. However, I have noticed that when I edit quotas for users and set cron jobs, they are saving in a /tmp file.

THis will mean that they are deleted on reboot.

Is it true that they are deleted on reboot? How can one sort out quotas so that the quota remains each time I reboot?

Also, I have been setting cron jobs. I was told to do it by setting them on a user basis. eg crontab -u root

How do I use the folders /etc/cron/cron.* Does the crondaemon file cron jobs in these folders depending on when it is to be run? Can I just make, and add jobs to, a text file in there and they will run hourly?

Thanks for all suggestions in advance.
Hamish
