i would like cron to run a job once every 30 seconds.. or maybe 15 seconds? how can i do that?

Once an hour maybe, but once every 15 or 30 seconds is a bit much, what is it that you need to run that often?

web camera... once a minute isn't exciting

Then install some webcam software, there are several for linux, xawtv includes a daemon and camstream does it with a GUI.

so cron can't do twice a minute?

Thats not what cron is for, thats what webcam software is for.

all i am saying is the designers should have thrown in a seconds * for the crontab
