Creating a mail relay server...

Hello,

I know this issue has been discussed a many of times, but I still can't seem to get the information I'm looking for. I am running Suse 9.0 with Bellsouth DSL and a static IP. After reading a few articles, it's obvious Bellsouth blocks port 25, but... Isn't there a way I could configure a mail server to accept incoming traffic on a different port from my mobile computer and then relay is through Bellsouth's server? That way I could send mail using Thunderbird on my computer from anywhere. I prefer Thunderbird over Bellsouth's web/email tool. Do I sound like I know what I'm talking about or am I an idiot?

Haha!!! I figured it out. I simply ran RINETD to forward all connections from one port other than 25 to mail.bellsouth.net, port 25. Now I can send mail from anywhere! I feel like a hacker! I'm getting away with something!

I'm trying to configure a mail server (postfix) on Fedora Core 5. I'm also on a Bellsouth DSL connection (my only choice). Perhaps a stupid question, but did you have to modify your mail *clients* to use port 26? Would you mind posting your rinetd.conf?
