Creating a file server accessable via http?

Hi I was wondering if there is a way of making a linux file server which can be accessed over the internet like xdrive or something?

We will have a dedicated servers and it would be great to have a file server where you can log on like your email and download/upload files create directories and password protect them...

Is there a web based app for this freely available already?

Thanks
Ankur

You are probably better off using an FTP then....because HTTP servers are really good for hosting files, but uploading files requires a bit more work. Unless you are really good with it or want to spend a lot of time with it, I would go with hosting an FTP server instead. Overall I think it would be less hassle....

If you still want to use HTTP, look up Apache. Its the best of the best.

Thanks for the reply, while I was searching for a good web client for a mail server, i found the answer to this.

The one recommended by someone on the board was webmail and that client also has a http access to a harddrive, which makes it real simple for business people to use...

Webmail along with having mail acces, calander it has an interface for web drive..

Thanks again.
