create a video dvd

Hi,

I have converted a whole bunch of videos to the mpeg2 vcd format with mencoder. I did just burn the files to a dvd but all standalone dvd players say "cannot read disc"? What do I have to do in order to be able to play the dvd on a standalone dvd player? The dvd's I use are DVD+R, now I'm trying out with a DVD+RW, but didn't get it to work. Do DVD+RW's generally work on dvd players or does it have to be DVD+R only?

greetings, gunnix

You have to generate it in the format(DVD not just the video) that standalone players are expecting. Search for Qdvdauthor(there are others too).

I have already converted the video files but devede and qdvdauthor want to convert it again, that takes way too much time?! Qdvdauthor already crashed twice. Is there no easier way doing this just on the commandline?

The thing is I actually got VCD video files but I want to burn them on a dvd (not in the dvd format) to let them play on the standalone dvd.

Ok, I missed the vcd part. You cannot burn vcd to dvd. Vcd has to be burn to cd. The "file system" for cd and dvd are different. The dvd file system does not know what to do with vcd format. That is why the programs are trying to convert image format.
