To put Icons on my desktop I use ROX:
http://rox.sourceforge.net/rox_filer.html
Also for my background image. I run:
rox -p=panel
As for the the menu, on my suse I make changes to a menu file located in:
/usr/share/blackbox
Hope this helps.

I'd suggest Idesk for icons, and that you edit your ~/.blackbox/menu file instead of the system one in /usr/share/blackbox. But then I'd suggest you use Fluxbox instead of BB anyway

You should definitely get bbkeys and bbconf too bbkeys allows you to create cool shortcut with the keyboard in blackbox, while bbconfig is great for menu editing and background/theme editing. BBconf also works together with bbkeys, so you can easily create keyboard shurtcuts graphically and painless .
I see you are on RedHat ...hmmm, if I'm not mistaken, you can get blackbox and bbkeys with apt-get. Nothing is easier then that
apt-get install blackbox
apt-get install bbkeys
To get bbconf to compile is simple too. All links are in blackbox homepage. apt-get you can download from here:
http://freshrpms.net/
For desktops icons I dunno. I think it's a little against blackbox principles. You know, make a fast kicking ass desktop, then fill it with icons and heavy bars.... I think in this case, it's better Gnome or KDE which are heavy and fully featured . But oh well, maybe that's just me
Good luck

yenonn, you can get .rpm packages of Fluxbox too
And as it's a fork from BB, you shouldnt need to install anything else, and your BB themes and dockapps should work fine with it.
Using the funky devel releases isnt hard either, just su, extract, ./configure (--prefix=/usr for Mdk or RH), make, make install, as usual.
