couple of questions on sound recording

what is the suggested sound recording app. one that i could "speak into my mic and save as a wav or something. plus the next thing on my list. i love to go to yahoo chat and voice with others. now i got the java2 running so i can go into chat but the voice is not an option. anyone want to venture a suggestion on that??
