This has been asked lots of times on the forum, and the answer is more or less: wine is bèta software. Some people can use it, lots can't.
I suggest you search this forum, search google, or go here: http://www.winehq.org/Docs/wine-faq/t1.shtml
Point is though, that may give up after a while as wine isn't yet what it's supposed to be.

Download wine and a program called winesetuptk. THat way you get wine and a great gui to help configure it. I haven't gotten any games to work on wine, but I have gotten several progs like Drammatica Pro and Sibelius to work. It's fun to tinker with I suppose, but don't get stressed if you can't get it to work.

You should get WineX from http://www.transgaming.com. Unfortunatelly it ain't free :( But you can download the cvs for free.

Are you sure? I am almost positive that Half-Life does NOT have a linux version available (well, a linux client. There has been a linux server has for a long time). I would LOVE to be proved wrong though

Kater, check first before you say something.
neither Half-Life or Counter-Strike play native under linux, only the server can be runned under linux.
I suggest WineX.

I actually have had good experiances with wineX. I succesfully ran ran several games like return to castle wolfenstine and quake 3. I experianced that games from id software run well. I also heard half life runs really good, as if it were a native linux binary. A few other games didn't work though. Tombraider doesn't and some other.

schatoor, Return to castle wolfenstein and Quake3 are availeble as native ports.
Better to use those, much faster.

Yes, i know. But I just wanted to see if it would work.

Hey nivek WHATS UP!!!
You are the nivek from WC right? :)
I think there is a linux version of counter-strike out there so if you don't mind spending extra cash then you could get that.
