could not start Ksmserver (kde dont boot)
hello i recently booted my machine and got this error machine "could not start Ksmserver" i got this error whilst trying to load kde in debian 3.1
can anybody help me overcome this message please

Did you look at the log files? They oftem contain more information.
Can you start a simple X session? I.e.: what happens when you do startx?
Have you tried any other display managers (xdm, gdm, etc.)?

i can use gnome with out any problems iv tried uninstalling kde completely then reinstalling it but i get the same error message

O.K., ksmserver is started under kwrapper so error messages are lost.
Try starting it by hand: # ksmserver kdm, for example (if you use the kdm, use gdm for the GNOME dm)
You may see some suggestive error messages.
Do a cat /usr/bin/startkde to see where ksmserver is called, and how.
