Smile could not mount usb storage on squashfs???

hello:
I change my file system from cramfs to squashfs, the system could bootup as usual, but when I connect a usb HD and the driver can detect it, but I couldn't see it on /dev/sdx. then I mount it on by typing <mount command>, the system start to hang on, then I couldn't type any command.
about 10min after, maybe mounting timeout, system has been released then I can type cmd to operate it on prompt!!! However I still can't use my usb HD on this system.
I return back to cramfs, then I can use usb HD as usual, but squashfs?! I have no idea~~ do I make mistakes on squashfs?!?!

any advice will be very appreciate!
thank you
