corrupt /var/lib/available/

Hey all

as I was apt-getting some packages, my computer shut down (cpu overheat) and I found it impossible to stsrt gdm or kdm-

I tried removing these packages to start with a clean config, but I get this error:

Code:
#apt-get remove--purge kde
...
dpkg: erreur d'analyse syntaxique, dans le fichier /var/lib/available près de le ligne 1:
le nom de champ " " doit être suivi de deux points (:)
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg/returned an error code (2)
I tried removing the file, that gives another error, and I couldn't fid a way to fix it. does anyone have a clue how to fix this?

many thanks

-Dave

ps: if you want me to try translate this just ask me...

never mind.

I copied that file from another machine, I don't know what's gonna happen in the end as there are many differences between both of them (on is a workstation laptop, the latter is a server) and I'm now reinstalling the packages that have to do with x (that's a lot of them)

hope it works, will keep you informed in case someone cares
