Copying copy-protected CDs and DVDs

Is there a way to burn copy-protected CDs/DVDs. I use mkisofs to convert CD into ISO and burn it using Nero.

I use the command:

mkisofs -J -r -T -o /cd1.iso /mnt/cdrom

Is this parameters the same with producing DVD iso? If not, can someone teach me how to produce a ISO image from a DVD. Thanks.

What copy-protected discs are you trying to copy? Please note the site rules:

I just want to have a backup of my DVD movies in the form of an iso image. I have no plans on distributing or whatsoever.

I just want to know if the mkisofs can be used to have an iso image of the dvd. Because the DVD can't be recorded on nero.

Several programmes exist for backing up cds/dvds..
The decryption takes place with the libdvdcss library.

The decryption library is under a cloud due to extended interpretations of "copy" and "backup" etc so many distros do not include it.

Have a look at dvd9to5, k3b, dvdbackup etc..
mkisofs has a -dvd-video option.. see man mkisofs

I still get best results backing up my dvd's with the windows app dvdshrink running on crossover or wine... works well.

You could try k9copy as well...

Look at this program:
dvdshrink.sourceforge.net

It's DVDShrink for Linux.
